Biblical Meaning Of Death In A Dream

If you are one of those who have been dreaming about death, then we wrote this article on the biblical meaning of death in a dream for you.
Biblical Meaning Of Death In A Dream

One of the most disturbing dreams that I've heard many complain about is a dream about death. If you woke up from a dream where you saw the death of a loved one or yourself in particular, I'm sure curiosity made you search for its meaning. So follow up as we explore the biblical meaning of death in dreams.

I understand that seeing that you or someone very close to you died in your dreams can be a dreadful experience. Such a dream is capable of getting anyone's attention or get them worried over what could transpire in their waking life.

Before we go into deciphering the meaning of this dream by the help of the Holy Spirit, I'll like to remind us that the right approach towards scary dreams isn't shuddering in fear.

Colossians 3:3 AMP
For you died [to this world], and your [new, real] life is hidden with Christ in God.

If you think that death dreams means that someone or the devil is after your life, as a child of God, be reminded that your life is hidden in Christ, and no force of darkness can prematurely pluck you out of His hands (John 10:28).

That being said, if you happened to see your own death in a dream, there is a better way to approach such a dream. God doesn't expect you to do that in fear.

Since death dreams come in various forms, this dream interpretation will cover the following:

  • Dream about death biblical meaning
  • Death in dream biblical meaning
  • Biblical meaning of dying in a dream
  • Death in a dream biblical meaning
  • Death dream biblical meaning

I've heard of situations where people refused to step out for the day, after they saw a dream about death. But I want everyone reading this dream interpretation to understand that, dreaming about dying rarely means the dreamer is going to die the next day.

The meaning of death in a dream is often a bad omen. Such a dream can only be regarded a good omen when it comes as a warning dream from God

On the other hand, death dreams can manifest as a spiritual attack from the kingdom of darkness. When this is the case, the dreamer shouldn't treat it lightly.

Spiritual Meaning Of Death In A Dream

I know that no one likes to die, but every living thing on earth is subject to a life span. The book of Ecclesiastes lets us know that there is a time to be born and a time to die (Ecclesiastes 3:2).

Therefore, everything that has a beginning on this present earth will always have an end. It is a natural rule ordained by God, that every living thing in this present world becomes subject to a biological process known as life cycle.

As we can see, death is inevitable for almost every living thing and everyone on this present earth. But death is only right and fair when it is natural, not when it is unjustly and artificially induced by another human or spirit.

It is understandable when things and people grow old and die. The narrative would be that “their time has come”. No one would really regret or question death if it happens in its right time.

But when death is prematurely and artificially induced, it becomes a punishable offense and sin to God. When people die prematurely without fulfilling their purpose and destiny, we know that something is not right somewhere.

Isaiah 61:1 NIV
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.

Notice that during the ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ on earth, the Lord was actively healing the sick (to curb potential premature death) and raising the dead (those who died prematurely).

Wherever Jesus went about preaching, He made sure He gave back life to those who died untimely death, because they still had a leftover of their divine destinies to fulfil.

It is apparent that God is not the orchestrator of every evil and premature death, but Satan is:

John 10:10 NIV
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

It is God's will that everyone He sends on earth completes their life span and fulfils their destiny. But the enemy always wills and plots against people, the direct opposite of what is in God's mind for them.

Oftentimes, I hear people question God on why He allowed someone to die young. It is rarely God but the enemy who orchestrates most sad, painful and premature death. Such happened because through one way or another, the enemy had access to terminate a life too early.

There is nothing really weird about an old person dreaming about their death, but there is definitely something wrong when a young person repeatedly dreams about dying

When a man dies in his old age, people rarely mourn. In some cases, their burial ceremony is turned into a celebration of death. But the same cannot be said about a young and vibrant person who died while working towards becoming who God destined them to be.

Sources Of Dreams About Death

If you are one of those who frequently dream about death, before you conclude on what your dream means, it is advisable you first of all ascertain its source, so you can better know how to go about tackling such a dream.

1. When A Death Dream Comes From God

God created man; He also has the power to kill and to make alive (Deuteronomy 32:39). The same God who gave life to man is able able to take it back at will, but He rarely does it.

What happens in old age isn't God taking back the life He gave to man, but man submitting to the natural biological process—that everything dies when they grow old. Dust returns to dust and the spirit returns back to God (Ecclesiastes 12:7).

If God decides to terminate a life and goes on to reveal it in a dream, then there is a tangible reason for that.

One of the reasons could be that such an individual has already fulfilled their destiny, and there is nothing left for them to do anymore on earth.

At times, people make requests to God that their own life be taken back by Him, and if God sees that is necessary, He will simply go ahead and answer that prayer.

Another reason could be that the individual has been very rebellious towards God, and has ignored all warnings from Him demanding for change.

In the case of Hezekiah, God sent him a warning (through a Prophet) concerning his death, then Hezekiah cried out to God and his life was extended for fifteen more years.

After that incidence, we see in second Chronicles that Hezekiah was actually proud and rebellious towards God—which prompted God's initial decision to take his life:

2 Chronicles 32:25 NIV
But Hezekiah’s heart was proud and he did not respond to the kindness shown him; therefore the LORD’s wrath was on him and on Judah and Jerusalem.

If you have been rebellious towards God and the things He asked you to do; if you have been living a life that displeases God and ignored all warnings to change, there is no need to be surprised or start asking questions if you happen to see your own death in dreams

Again, death in a dream could come as a warning dream from God, revealing that the enemy has plotted to terminate a life.

Luke 22:31-32 ESV
Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.”

Such a warning dream is always meant to get the dreamer to sit up and pray, in order to cancel the plot of the enemy against the person they saw dead in the dream.

2. Death Dream From The Enemy

Most bad dreams that people see often come from the enemy, and it doesn't always mean that what is seen in those dreams will come to pass.

One of the major reasons why the enemy shows people a bad dream is to allow them give that dream the approval to manifest in their life.

When the enemy shows you terrible things he's doing against you in a dream, it doesn't always mean that he has already successfully executed those things in your life.

Job 3:25 NIV
What I feared has come upon me; what I dreaded has happened to me.

The enemy is smart, but he knows his limit. By showing people bad dreams, he gives room for them to feed it with fear, which can in turn empower it to possibly manifest in their life.

Fear is negative faith in the enemy and his works. This is why our Lord Jesus repeatedly tells us in scriptures to not fear.

3. Death Dreams Out Of Fear Of Death

There are people who always go about with this kind of fear that comes like an inner knowing that they are soon going to die, or something bad is going to happen to them.

The enemy has successfully implanted in such individuals a mind full of negativity; always wishing for the worst to happen to them. This is not the right mindset and can never be from God.

2 Timothy 1:7 NLT
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

It is neither normal nor ordinary for anyone to go about their day scared that they are about to experience the worst. Such a lifestyle and mindset is just enough to trigger death dreams

If you are always feeling like something bad is about to happen to you, you simply need deliverance from the spirit of fear.

Dream About Death Biblical Meaning

Now that you know the sources of death dreams, I believe you're now in a better place to know how to go about tackling such dreams.

As we've seen so far;

  1. Dreams about death can be triggered by a man's disobedience and rebellion towards God.
  2. Death dreams can come as visions and revelations from God, letting the dreamer know what the enemy is plotting against them or their loved ones, so they could pray to nullify it.
  3. Death dreams can as well come directly from the enemy. In most cases, the enemy throws such a dream on the dreamer so they could feed it with fear and possibly enable its manifestation.
  4. Inherent fear of death and evil can as well trigger death dreams.

John 10:28 BSB
And I give them eternal life, and never shall they perish to the age, and never will anyone seize them out of My hand.

As a child of God, always remember that God wants you to live; your life is in His hands. So long you remain in Him, the enemy cannot come around and slit your throat at will. Choose to stay prayed up and stop living in fear of death.

Biblical Meaning Of Dreaming About Your Ex Dying

Most dreams about someone we know dying often come as a revelation from God. Whenever we dream about something bad happening to someone we know, God wants us to pray about it or pray for them.

See it as a privilege that God reveals to you what the enemy is plotting against someone else. Be they your ex, your siblings, friends or family members, God sees you as the best available option He can trust to pray for their deliverance. Make sure you don't fail Him.

Biblical Meaning Of Dead Body In A Dream

Seeing a dead body in the dream is not fun. Some of these dreams can be really scary.

Were you able to identify whose dead body you saw in your dream? If the person is still alive, please intercede for them against premature death. If the person is already dead, this has another meaning entirely. Read the meaning of seeing dead people in a dream for better understanding.

If you are constantly seeing dead bodies in your dreams, the spirit of death has been released against you and its mission is to kill. Do not treat such dreams lightly, instead, go into serious prayers with fasting, praying to cancel the evil plots of darkness against your life.

Biblical Meaning Of Your Child Dying In A Dream

If you see your child dying in a dream, don't discard it as a normal dream, because most of such dreams will likely come as a revelation from God—alerting you of what the enemy is plotting against your children.

Christian parents are expected to cover their children spiritually, through prayers. You may not be able to go everywhere your child goes, or watch everything they are doing. But you can be rest assured that God will watch over and protect them if you are always praying for them.
