10 Reasons To Have Faith In God

Right from time, curiosity has always driven people into questioning many things concerning God and religion. A lot of questions have been raised on why it is important to have faith in God. In this article, we will discuss our 10 reasons to have faith in God (and even more), as the Holy Spirit gives the insights.

If you're one of those who have always been eager to know why you should believe in or put your faith in a possibly existing personality called 'God,' let's trust that your many questions get answered in this article.

For your proper understanding of this topic, we will touch on the following:

  • Why is faith important in everyday life
  • Why is faith important to God
  • Logical reasons to believe in God
  • The importance of faith in the Bible, etc.

I believe everyone is born with an inner knowing; a heart-imprinted intuition that there exists a Supreme and Eternal Being from which all life forms emanate. The existence of this Supreme Spirit is even confirmed and validated in creation.

Romans 1:20 NIV
For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

God's existence is not a secret, the Creator has made it possible for man to “instinctively” know that He exists. Even those who do their best to argue and try to deny the existence of God are without excuse. They know He exists.

The reason why I'm saying this is because, there is a gap which the Almighty left in man, only to be filled by Him. It is the feeling arising from this emptiness that compels and propels man into searching for God. But unfortunately for some, during their search for God they end up believing in the wrong thing.

Since there are many things people worship and kotow to as a 'god,' before we go on to talk about having faith in God, we must come into agreement on the exact Deity we will be discussing about in this article.

Isaiah 42:8 ASV
I am Jehovah, that is my name; and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise unto graven images.

From all that has been said so far, and from the Bible references, it is apparent that this article is about the Christian God—just as this blog is. So if you are an atheist reading this, that should give you a sneak peek into who this is all about.

Why Faith Is Important To God

The subject of faith remains an abstract concept to the average man. If we were to judge everything from the place of intellect, we would find out that faith doesn't make any sense.

But that is also why spirituality is a stand-alone belief that encompasses a number of abstract concepts (including faith, miracles, and blessings). In most cases, their manifestation defy human understanding; they operate beyond the material or physical world.

There is divinity and there is the mundane. Faith is divine—it is spiritual—it isn't of this world. We can not decipher spiritual things with our mental prowess. We can only know that the spiritual exists or refuse to admit that we know it does.

God is Spirit (John 4:24), and to us mortal men, He has declared that there is one thing which pleases Him so much, and that thing is called faith:

Hebrews 11:6 ESV
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

In a layman's words, faith is complete trust, dependence, confidence or belief in someone or something. Faith leads to conviction—a state of firmly held belief and opinion concerning a person or thing.

Here is how the Bible defines faith:

Hebrews 11:1 ESV
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

From the above scriptural definition, we see that the “faith rule” is that you have to trust or put your confidence in what you cannot readily see with your physical eyes or sense with your physical senses. You must accept such thing as a reality.

This is where many people begin to face difficulty, because they are so used to only believing things they can readily process as “being real” using their physical senses.

Many have a hard time accepting as reality things they're unable readily process with their five senses. But let's also remember that it was for this reason Jesus reproved Thomas:

John 20:29 BSB
Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

God is a supernatural being. We cannot comprehend or interact with the supernatural using intellectual capacity and physical senses. We can only reach out to Him by faith, and when we do, we'll always find out that He is and has always been there.

Faith doesn't have to make sense; it defies logic. Having faith in God is meant to confirm that God is real, alive and active. Refusing to have faith in God is the same as denying His existence. That isn't going to force Him to prove His existence either. Unbelief is the most unpleasant thing to God.

10 Reasons Why You Should Have Faith In God

Below are 10 very specific reasons to have faith in God.

1. God Is Your Maker

There are many people out there (especially scientists, atheists and new agers) who believe that they came through evolution or they are their own source of existence. We pray that the Lord intervenes to save them in time.

The Bible speaks expressly on who the source of man's life and everything on earth is:

Genesis 1:26 KJV
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness...

Hebrews 1:8,10 KJV
But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands.

John 1:6-9 KJV
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

Knowing that God is our Creator is the most important and just enough reason to have faith in Him. Your Maker is also your sustainer. Like the leaves and branches of a tree depend on the roots for their survival, you are connected to God as your life source.

If we cannot live without God, why then would a person not have faith in Him? Is it very unwise and unimpressive to not have faith in your lifeline.

2. There Are Neither Risk Factors Nor Losses

Man is built with a safety mechanism in place, which is meant to protect him from danger and harm. Sometimes the effects of this mechanism manifest as fear and suspicion—which makes us kick against our Creator.

There are people who have negative fear towards God. They don't trust themselves, they don't trust others, and they're scared everyone wants to harm them.

Such individuals are always scared of what God would do to them if they disobeyed Him (or if they refused to accept His calling upon their life). Unknowing to them, they are allowing that to make them lose faith in God and become rebellious towards Him.

Jeremiah 29:11 KJV
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

We must always have it at the back of our minds that God wants the best for us; He never means us evil.

Those who do not have faith in God often end up fearing God the wrong way. For flimsy reasons, they're often scared of giving God their all and working for Him.

There are neither risk factors nor losses attached to having faith in God. There is neither disadvantage nor failure in God. So put down your defences and put your faith in God!

3. God Is Benevolent

People serve different deities with diverse attributes and personalities. Benevolence is simply goodness. Apart from Elohim, no other deity has this attribute. Only the Christian God is benevolent. Most of the so-called 'gods' that people worship are malevolent; hey don't hesitate to maim and kill.

Psalm 34:8 NLT
Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!

Serving devils is the deadliest choice anyone can make. The littlest mistake agents of darkness make can cost them life or that of their family members, because Satan is not benevolent.

Psalm 145:8 KJV
The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.

But in God, so much is different. So why not put your faith in the good God and worship Him

4. It Is A Faith Walk

The Christian walk is a walk of faith. There is no other means through which we can connect with God apart from faith. Even our salvation is made possible through faith in the only begotten Son of God. With our hearts, we believe and are justified, and with our mouth we confess and are saved (Romans 10:10).

As a Christian, there is no other way around from having faith in God. There is no substitute for faith in Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 10:38 BSB
But My righteous one will live by faith; and if he shrinks back, I will take no pleasure in him.

It is faith that makes us Christians, and it is faith that sustains us in this walk with God. Without genuine faith in God, a person is not a Christian.

Faith is the glue that binds a man to God and sustain his relationship with Him. It shouldn't come to us as a surprise, when we hear stories of people giving up on following God because they lost their faith in Him.

5. God Loves More Than Anyone Else Does

The love of God is beyond what any man can fathom. Neither parents nor spouses can give the dimension, depth, amount and quality of love that God gives. Neither can you compare divine love with love from mere mortals.

Romans 5:8 NLT
But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

It was love that sent Jesus Christ to the Cross. The Bible says that it is out of His love and mercy that we are not consumed.

Throughout scriptures, God has consistently demonstrated His love towards people of all races. He picks up the rejected and less-privileged, heals them, dusts them off and makes them sit with kings(1 Samuel 2:8).

Romans 8:38-39 NIV
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

God's love is perfect and incomparable. It is not like man's love that fails. You can safely put your faith in Him!

6. God Is Trustworthy

God is trustworthy, He doesn't betray our trust in Him. He is the most reliable companion anyone can have.

Proverbs 3:6 NIV
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

God is trustworthy and faithful. He won't go about telling your secrets and stabbing you in the back. So why not put your faith in Him?

Some of us often pour out our hearts to humans we trust instead of God, and in most cases it backfires and we end of regretting we ever did such. But with God, your secret is always safe.

Psalm 91:2 NLT
This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.

We should be like the Psalmist who learned to put his faith and trust wholly in God because He never for once failed him.

7. God Is Consistent With His Promises

Humans are unstable when it comes to keeping promises, but God doesn't say one thing and do another. He is different. He is a covenant keeper.

Genesis 8:1 NIV
But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded.

When God speaks a word concerning your life, even though it may take some time to manifest, you can be rest assured that it will definitely come to pass.

Genesis 30:22 ESV
Then God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her and opened her womb.

There are many people in the Bible to whom God made promises and remembered those promises, then went on to fulfil them. Some of those people were at the verge of losing hope, but God always proves Himself faithful. He keeps His promises!

8. God Never Leaves

Most human connections we have in our lives will be temporary. People come and go. Even married couples who have been together for many years do break up and go their separate ways. But when Jesus comes into our life, He never leaves. He stays through the thick and thin!

Matthew 28:20 NLT
Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

People may promise us forever when they come into our lives, but are nowhere to be found when we need them the most. People may eventually get tired of us and forsake us, but God never will.

Hebrews 13:5 KJV
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

God stays! Both in our good and bad times, He's always there with and for us. He is dependable. Only God can be trusted to not forsake us. He's definitely the One worth putting our faith in.

9. Faith Pleases God

Since God does all these things to demonstrate His love for us and to please us, we ought also to give Him that love in return.

The first and most important step towards proving our love for God should be by putting our faith totally in and trusting Him wholeheartedly. This alone is of extreme importance to God when it comes to determining who loves Him and who doesn't. You cannot love a God you doubt and suspect.

How is it that we have many Christians today who doubt and question God a lot? Why are they so doubtful on whether God hears theirs prayers and whether He will fulfil what He promised them or not? Relating with God in this manner always breaks His heart.

If you go through the four gospels, you will notice that faith always impressed and pleased the Lord. The manifestation of raw faith in certain people made Jesus praise and use them as example to others.

Whenever the Lord found someone who demonstrated real faith in Him, He was always left in awe! This is a real but underrated key to God's heart that many are not harnessing!

Matthew 8:10 NLT
When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to those who were following him, he said, “I tell you the truth, I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel!

If we truly love God, there wouldn't be any room for distrust, suspicion, disbelief and negative fear towards Him. All of these displease God.

1 John 4:18 NIV
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

Again, we cannot love God according to the way we feel is right. We can only love Him according to His own specifications. Because faith pleases God and we are a people who wants to please Him, then we should give Him just that!

10. Faith Commands Proximity To God

Because faith pleases God, it can as well enable us draw closer to Him and have a better relationship with Him

Many people have a hard time growing in Christ and knowing Him more, due to so much doubt in their heart towards Him. We cannot grow closer to a God we doubt that much.

Power Of Faith In God

Faith in God produces amazing results. We cannot highlight them all in one blog post. The Bible is filled with stories of people who did great exploits using great faith in God.

Hebrews 11:1-2 KJV
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report.

For instance, David was one outstanding personality whose total dependence in God gave him uncommon victory over his enemies. Because of this, David never lost a battle.

The Bible tells us that through faith, the elders obtained a good report (Hebrews 11:2). In other words, they recorded good success in all that they did in ministry to God and to the people.

Benefits Of Having Faith In God

There are innumerable benefits attached to having faith in God. Some of the most important ones are as follows:

  1. Faith Is Needed To Receive From God: Faith is the currency of Heaven. The word of God is clear on the truth that those who doubt God cannot receive a thing from Him (James 1:7).
  2. Faith Commands Victory: Our victory over the world, sin and Satan is made possible only through faith in Jesus Christ (1 John 5:4).
  3. Faith Makes The Impossible Possible: Wherever God finds real faith, He is always pleased and moved to perform a miracle that goes beyond what man sees as “a possibility” (Luke 17:6).

Final Thoughts On Reasons To Have Faith In God

Beloved, I believe much has been said so far and we have gotten a clear understanding into what faith is (and why we should have faith in God).

Unbelief is sin. We cannot be Christians who doubt God so much. If this is the way we've been, we need to repent and start demonstrating true faith in God.

It is also important to remind us that, if anyone still has fears and doubts towards God even after reading this article, they need not worry because even God isn't begging anyone to follow and serve Him. It is either we believe God or step out of the way for those who are ready to believe in Him.

Many who were once professing Christians gave up on God because they had so many doubts and questions concerning the divinity and omnipotence of God. It was never God's fault that they lived in doubt.

Anyone who persistently doubts God and is adamant to change is naturally disconnected from Him. Let us not be like those who doubt and are destroyed. We have a thousand and one reasons to believe in God
