Power In WORSHIP - What is WORSHIP According to the Bible?
Worship is a powerful spiritual practice or act that every genuine Christian should understand and harness to the fullest in their walk with God.

Worship is an integral and vital part of our relationship with God. Worship existed in Heaven even before the foundations of the earth were laid. Even before man was created, angels worshipped God in Heaven (Revelation 4:8-11). Worship comes from God and is for God. Angels are made to worship God; the Bible says they are ministering spirits (Hebrews 1:14).
The worship of angels (or angelolatry) is unacceptable to God. It is one of the worst and abominable kinds of idolatry—the Lord detests it. Man was created to worship God and Him alone, not angels.
God demands we worship Him because He deserves it. Every creature was created to worship the Creator—that is one of the major purposes why the Almighty made all that is made.
Psalm 19:1 KJVThe heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
Man was made to render worship to God and he shouldn't fail live up to this responsibility. But even if he fails, the Bible makes us understand that 'even the stones will cry out'. I don't know about you, but I cannot let stones worship my Father in my place.
Luke 19:40 KJVAnd he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.
We cannot sit back to allow stones to worship our God on our behalf while we are yet alive. If we do so, we've failed God in our purpose for existence. We should give to God unreserved worship.
Meaning of Worship
Worship is the expression of reference or adoration towards God Almighty. The best way to express to the Lord our gratitude is through worship.
What is worship according to Bible? Biblical worship is acknowledging the Kingship and Supremacy of God over all. Worship happens to be a beautiful and powerful reality if we grasp it from God's perspective.
Why We Should Worship God
God has done so much for us to deserve our worship. The gift of life alone is priceless—no other can give that to us except God. We should worship Him for giving us Son as a ransom for our sins. We should worship God for His protection, provision and guidance etc, upon our lives. There are innumerable reasons why we should worship God.
How To Worship God
There are many ways we can worship God. The holy scriptures has made this plain to us. Let's take a look at some of them below:
1. Worship God With Musical Instruments
Psalm 150:3-6 KJVPraise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. [4] Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. [5] Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. [6] Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.
2. Worship Him With Your Heart
Psalms 63:4-5 TPTDaily I will worship you passionately and with all my heart. My arms will wave to you like banners of praise. I overflow with praise when I come before you, for the anointing of your presence satisfies me like nothing else. You are such a rich banquet of pleasure to my soul.
3. Worship God With Gladness Of Heart
Psalm 100:2 - Worship the LORD with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy.
4. Worship Him In Spirit And Truth
John 4:24 KJVGod is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
5. Worship Him In The Beauty Of Holiness
Psalm 96:9 KJVO worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.
6. Worship God With Your Body
Romans 12:1 (ESV)I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
Worshipping God Through The Son
Why do Christians worship Jesus? There is a school of thought that believes Christians are not suppose to worship Jesus Christ because it is not the right thing to do. But we will see below whether this is true or not.
1. The Father demands we worship the Son
The Father Himself demands that His Angels worship His Son. How much more mere mortals?
Hebrews 1:4-6 KJVBeing made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. [5] For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? [6] And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
2. No one comes to the Father except through the Son
John 14:6 KJVJesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Access to the Father is only granted through the Son. The Father has made it so. Therefore, we cannot by-pass the Son to worship the Father—but we can worship both the Father and the Son!
3. The Father And The Son Are One
Jesus repeatedly made it clear in the four gospels, His place with the Father. Both the Son and the Father dwell in love and unity. If you see the Son, you've seen the Father (John 14:9).
John 10:30 KJVI and my Father are one.
You can not separate the Son from the Father because a supernatural love relationship bonds them together. Jesus is not striving for supremacy over the Father or vice versa. They are both submitted to each other.
The Power of Worship In Difficult Times
Most people find it difficult to worship God in hard times. God deserves our worship, no matter the circumstances surrounding us. God is bigger than all our problems; bigger than every trial of life or difficulties we may experience. Worshipping God in difficult times proves to God that we trust Him—that our gaze is on Him instead of our storm. By so doing, we please God and He will deliver us from our storm, even faster than we expect.
Worship And Spiritual Warfare
Worship is a powerful weapon in spiritual warfare. When we worship in the midst of our battle, our worship compels God to move into action on our behalf. The battle in the supernatural realm is real, very fierce and intense in these last days. The enemy is all out against the children of God. It is for this reason that the Lord instructed me to write a book on spiritual warfare (which I recently published on Amazon). If you really want to win your spiritual battles and live a victorious Christian life over the enemy and his works, you should get this book: Anointed For Battle: An Experiential Guide To Spiritual Warfare.
Benefits of Worship
What are benefits of worship?
- Worship is a powerful form of prayer that commands mighty breakthrough and miracles (Acts 16:25).
- Worship attracts the palpable presence of God. It makes us perpetual carries of His Presence.
- Worship rids the atmosphere (in any given location) of evil presence and evil spirits. It purifies the atmosphere for miracles, healings and deliverances to take place.
The True Worship
What is true worship? True worship is God-centered worship. It is defined by the priority we place on who God is in our lives and where God occupies in our hearts—He must be elevated to the throne of our heart. True worship must be given to God through Jesus Christ. We cannot hate the Son and profess to worship the Father. We cannot deny the Godship of the Son and claim to worship the Father.
Final Thoughts On The Power Of Worship
Worship should become an integral part of our existence and daily life as Christians. God loves worship, therefore, it is a key to His heart. If we truly understood the power of this act, we wouldn't hesitate to start harnessing its secrets.
Worship must be rendered to God through a holy vessel. We are commanded to lift up holy hands to God (1 Timothy 2:8)—"holy hands", not filthy ones.
Overall, obedience is the highest form of worship. It is better to live a life that is pleasing to God, than singing many songs to God while living in rebellion against Him.
