Many often see Jesus in a dream and wonder what it means. Join us today as we explore the biblical meaning of seeing Jesus in a dream.
Biblical Meaning Of Seeing Jesus In A Dream

I have heard of many people who said they saw Jesus in their dream and they wondered what such a dream could mean, or the message it probably conveyed. Today, we will learn the biblical meaning of seeing Jesus in a dream.

If you woke up out of a dream of seeing Jesus, then on getting online, you found this article, see it as God's doing. I presume that you have many unanswered questions concerning your dream. Let's trust the Lord to enable us answer your questions as we progress.

Ezekiel 38:23 NLT
In this way, I will show my greatness and holiness, and I will make myself known to all the nations of the world. Then they will know that I am the LORD.

Seeing Jesus in a dream is not something that happens regularly or to many people. There are many Christians who have never seen Jesus in their dream, but that doesn't mean something is wrong with them or their salvation.

There are also many other Christians who have once seen the Lord Jesus in their dream. There is another group of Christians who see Jesus frequently in their dreams.

I understand that seeing Jesus Christ in dreams can be a very exciting experience. But I'll also like to let you understand that these dreams are not for a select few “special people.” The Bible makes us understand that God is no respecter of persons; He's not partial. Jesus Christ Himself decides on who He reveals Himself to in a dream—and that can be just anyone at all!

A dream about Jesus might come in one or more of the following forms (as reportedly seen by many):

  • I saw Jesus face in my dream
  • Dreaming of walking with Jesus
  • Dream of seeing Jesus in the clouds
  • Dream of Jesus smiling at me
  • Dream of Jesus hugging me

Have you ever seen a dream about Jesus Christ and wondered what it meant? I believe you're at the right place to understand the meaning of your dream. Seeing Jesus in a dream is always a good thing. Such dreams are often prophetic dreams, filled with God's presence.

Note that, if you've never seen a dream about Jesus, it's not because it is impossible to do so. Anyone can see such dreams if they align themselves with God and ask through prayer.

Dream About Jesus

Although dreams about Jesus are not very common, these dreams are also not selective. I've heard about some unbelievers who saw Jesus in their dreamand that led to their salvation. Like I earlier said, in most cases, Jesus Himself decides on who He reveals Himself to.

The unbelievers who have seen Jesus in their dreams didn't do anything special. Sometimes, seeing a dream about Jesus is not by merit but according to God's will.

I believe that if you happen to dream about Jesus, you should count yourself blessed. Because no one remains the same after seeing such a dream. No one remains the same after having such an encounter with God.

Biblical Meaning Of Seeing Jesus In A Dream

Seeing Jesus in a dream shouldn't be a strange occurrence to a genuine Christian. Right before the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in the flesh, He has been making appearances to different people.

Genesis 14:20 NLT
After Abram returned from his victory over Kedorlaomer and all his allies, the king of Sodom went out to meet him in the valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley). And Melchizedek, the king of Salem and a priest of God Most High, brought Abram some bread and wine. Melchizedek blessed Abram with this blessing: “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. And blessed be God Most High, who has defeated your enemies for you.” Then Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of all the goods he had recovered.

We've read in the Bible, the story of Melchizedek, how Abraham had an encounter with him in the old testament. After a careful look at the qualities of Melchizedek, they are not different from who Jesus Christ is.

Hebrews 7:1-3
This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, the name Melchizedek means 'king of righteousness'; then also, 'king of Salem' means 'king of peace.' Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever.

So we can boldly say that Abraham had an encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ. And it doesn't just end there. Many other people which the Bible do not mention may have been having encounters with Jesus Christ (even before His manifestation in the flesh), both while awake and even in their dreams.

In the new testament, after His resurrection, the Lord Jesus Christ made many appearances to different people, beginning from His own disciples.

1 Corinthians 15:6 NIV
After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.

If the Lord Jesus can give people a one-to-one encounter with Him, then it is not a strange thing if He does the same in a dream.

Both Christians and none Christians have been seeing Jesus in their dreams. But there are very specific and important reasons why the Lord chooses to appear to people in dream. We will take a look at those reasons in the next subheading.

What Does It Mean If Jesus Appears To You?

So if Jesus decides to show you a dream about Himself, what exactly does it mean? Except Jesus speaks to you in the dream (which happens in most cases) specifically concerning why He gave you a revelation of Himself, then a dream of Jesus could imply the following:

1. Jesus Wants You Saved

If a non-Christian sees a dream about Jesus Christ, first of all, understand that Jesus wants them to submit to Him and get saved. Even when it happened that Jesus said nothing in the dream, I believe you could feel His heart without Him having to use human words. His appearance alone should be enough to bring conviction.

2 Peter 3:9 NIV
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

When the Lord appears to an unbeliever, His major intention is always to call them to repentance. If you saw this dream and you aren't yet saved, go ahead and pray this salvation prayer to Jesus Christ.

2. Jesus Bids You To Draw Closer

Sometimes, seeing a dream about Jesus could be Jesus' way of bidding you to draw closer, so as to experience a better relationship with Him.

James 4:8 KJV
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

From what I know so far, if an individual has been faithfully following the Lord and along the line, Jesus appears to them in a dream, that individual cannot remain the same. There will definitely be a spiritual upgrade.

Jesus never visits in dreams for nothing. The dreamer's relationship with God will definitely receive a supernatural upward push.

God is vast, no man can exhaust Him and no one can say they've attained the best possible relationship they can have with Him. Do not allow complacency to prevent you from going for more. If Jesus appears to you in a dream, He is calling you into intimacy with Him; into a deeper walk with God.

3. For Strengthening And Impartation

At times, the Lord may decide to visit certain people for the purpose of strengthing and impartation. Jesus visits people in prisons, in the hospitals and in places we could never imagine He would visit. He does it for the purposes of encouraging, strengthing, healing and impartation, etc.

I've heard of people who got a visitation from Jesus in their dreamsand ended up receiving the impartation of the Holy Spirit or a spiritual gift from His hand.

It is simply impossible to get a visitation from God and still remain at the same spiritual level you were before.

4. It Could Come As A Wake-Up Call

If a Christian had terribly slacked in their walk with God and had fallen away, Jesus may decide to visit them in order to strengthen and encourage them to pick up from where they fell.

Revelation 2:4-5 KJV
Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. [5] Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

If your relationship with God had not been in good shape for a long time now and Jesus decided to visit you, see it as a wake-up call and don't take such an experience for granted. He is calling you to rise again, pick up your cross and follow Him till the end.

5. It Can Be A Sign That You're Building A Better Relationship With God

If you've been working on improving your relationship with God, a visitation of Jesus in your dream could just mean that God is pleased with you.

John 14:21 KJV
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

This dream is a sign that Jesus is now closer to you and you are closer to Him. He is pleased with the fact that you are working towards knowing Him more. He is pleased to reveal Himself to you.

What Does It Mean When You Dream About Jesus Talking To You?

Every dream of Jesus Christ often comes with a message. Even when Jesus does not open His mouth to say a word in the dream, there is always a message supernaturally imparted to the dreamer—that can only be known and understood by the dreamer.

Hebrews 1:1-2 KJV
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, [2] Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.

The Father speaks to us through the Son. The Son may decide to relay the message back to us via the Holy Spirit or He may give us a personal visitation—to deliver the message. This can come in form of a dream

Dream About Jesus Coming

In these last days, God is giving end time revelations to many people, and in some cases, these revelations may come in form of dreams

If you dream of Jesus coming back, understand that this dream is a wake up call—to you and to others. The Lord gives you this dream just to remind you to stay ready for His imminent return.

John 9:4 KJV
I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

Such dreams come to remind you to get right with God and remind others to get saved and get right with God also. So go ahead and do the work of an evangelist
