Prayer To Remove The Spirit Of Anger

Getting angry easily is a problem and a challenge many Christians want to overcome. Here is a prayer to remove spirit of anger.
Managing one's temper happens to be one of the most daunting tasks almost everyone is faced with. For most people, flaring up at the slightest provocation tends to be the norm; it has become part and parcel of their daily lives

Prayer To Remove Spirit Of Anger

But for Christians, we know that God doesn't expect us to allow anger have the better part of us. The holy Bible reveals to us in several verses, the harmful effects of letting anger rule over us.

Hence, every genuine Christian knows that it is expected of them to live a calmer and more peaceful life, than an angry one. A prayer to remove the spirit of anger can go a long way to help a Christian better manage their temper.

Psalm 37:8 NASB
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret, it leads only to evildoing.

There have been several debates in many Christian circles, on whether anger is a spirit or an emotion. Naturally, anger is an emotion. This emotion exists alongside every other emotion that is found within every human.

Even animals have and exhibit emotions too. If you've owned pets, you must have noticed that they can as well get angry—if there is something that triggers that emotion in them.

Apparently, anger is not just a 'human thing'; it is also not inherently evil as some people speculate. This emotion can infact, help us make valuable changes in our lives, if well utilized.

The fact that anger exists alongside every other emotion in humans, simply tells us that God created and deposited it there in us—just like He did with other emotions humans have.

I've noticed that some people are often quick to point fingers at others and reprove them for getting angry, or sometimes accuse them of being possessed by the spirit of anger. But the same people wouldn't do any better, if they found themselves in the same situation.

Let's not be quick to forget that we as well can get angry if triggered. It takes a lot of patience, practice and time to be able to better manage anger.

We all know that everyone has the anger emotion in them. I've never heard anyone say that they've never been angry before, since they were born.

The Bible tells us on several occasions that even God gets angry. Although God's anger is often against unrighteousness, we can see that anger itself is not inherently evil. If it were, God wouldn't exhibit an iota of it.

It was out of holy anger against unrighteousness, that our Lord Jesus made a whip of cords, and drove the money changers out of the temple, overturning their tables (John 2:15).

Exodus 32:10 NIV
Now leave me alone so that my anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them. Then I will make you into a great nation.

The Bible goes on to tell us that we were created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26). We proceeded forth and came from Him. If God can get angry, I believe that's enough proof as to why humans can as well get angry.

Ephesians 4:26 ESV
Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger.

The scripture in Ephesians 4:26 reveals something very spectacular to us: it shows us that no matter how good we are in the art of managing anger, it may still sometimes catch us off-guard. But when it does, we should tame it as fast as possible, and not let it lead us into sin.

You and I have witnessed on several occasions, the effects of unbridled anger. Anyone who fails to take charge of their temper just in time, when they are angry, can be led by that emotion to do things they would later regret.

Psalm 30:5 NLT
For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.

Even though God's anger is often against unrighteousness, He obeys the principle in Ephesians 4:26; His anger lasts only a moment! This is something vital about anger management that we must learn from our Maker.

Deliverance From Spirit Of Anger

The enemy is admittedly smart; he is always on the look out for possible loopholes in man, to use against him. This arch enemy of God has lived for millions of years, and has carefully studied to understand the composition of man. And yes, he did find a loophole in human emotions.

Apart from the fact that anger is a naturally occurring emotion in every human being, there is an evil spirit whose purpose for existence is to work with this emotion; to intensify its effects, and to influence man with it—causing him to continually sin against God. That spirit is the spirit of anger.

There are people who are possessed and controlled by the spirit of anger. Their anger often quickly escalates into rage (a violent wrath), and causes them to do things they normally wouldn't do if they were in their right state of mind.

Psalm 37:8 NLT
Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper—it only leads to harm.

The spirit of anger doesn't only possess people, but it can as well influence them from the outside. The spirit of anger hovers around certain people and causes them to be irritated and go haywire at the slightest provocation.

The uncomfortable truth is that, most people we see today are either possessed or influenced by this spirit of rage.

These days, you get on the street and almost everyone is on the edge with their temper; always ready to lash out on the next person for stepping on their toes.

We are witnessing more gun violence in the streets, domestic violence in different homes and murder cases everywhere, because the spirit of anger is on rampage to destroy lives.

When people begin destroying properties and throwing things around in fits of rage against an offender, you can immediately see that such a behavior is abnormal and beyond what can be caused by the natural anger emotion.

The spirit of anger can attack even the most spiritual person. That is why we must watch out at all times and be extremely careful, so that we don't come under the influence of this spirit.

The following steps can be employed to accelerate deliverance and ensure safety from the influence of the spirit of anger:

1. Actively Pray Against The Spirit Of Anger

If you have noticed that you are constantly being controlled by anger to react to people and situations in a way that displeases God, you need to pray against the spirit of anger. If anger is severely impacting your daily life and relationship with others, then you should actively pray against the spirit of anger.

It is obvious that you aren't just negatively influenced by anger emotion, but the spirit of anger has its hand in getting you easily enraged.

Constantly pray to God, asking Him to deliver you from the spirit of anger and give you inner peace.

When one has peace within themselves, it would be difficult to get them irritated at the slightest provocation. But when there is inner turmoil, it will always manifest on the outside as outbursts of anger.

2. Spend More Time With God And Less With People

If you've noticed that it is when you get among people and try to rapport with them, that you easily get enraged by their words or actions, then it is necessary you re-adjust and get used to spending more time with God, and less time with people.

This becomes necessary, because no one who spends quality time with God remains the same. It is guaranteed that the more time we spend with God, the more we will be transformed into His image and likeness (2 Corinthians 3:18).

Since God is slow to anger, it is assured that as He works in us to transform us, we will also become more like Him in that aspect.

When one is sure that they have been transformed by God to a great extent, and they are then at a better place to deal with people, they can associate more with others.

Although this step might turn out to be quite difficult if one is working a job that demands they interact with different people on a daily basis, it still can be done.

Avoid conversations that could easily get you enraged. If the conversation is not business or job oriented, then there shouldn't be any need to spend hours daily conversing with other people.

3. Avoid Situations That Could Get You Triggered

As much as you can, avoid getting into arguments or any other situation that could trigger anger in you. Having peaceful conversations with just a few words daily will go a long way to help you live a calmer and peaceful life.

It is true that there are people who will choose to play 'the devil's advocate' all the time, with the intent of always getting on your nerves. It is wise to mark such people and avoid them as much as you can.

In situations where you cannot completely avoid such people, you have to apply wisdom in your dealings with them. Since you already know what their intentions are, you are in a better place to overcome their anger traps.

Don't be resentful towards people (because that isn't godly), but you can always take charge of how you relate and converse with them. Be discerning and quick to end conversations and walk away, if you sense they are geared towards getting you annoyed.

4. Always Remind Yourself To Stay Calm

It is almost impossible to completely avoid dealing with people everyday. So you have to work harder and cultivate the habit of staying as calm as possible, in the face of provocation.

Always remind yourself that, not every provocative action requires an equal reaction from you. If you must react, let it be that you're shrugging it off in order to stay calm.

Get intentional about practising calmness. Be quick to identity situations that are meant to trigger you, and remind yourself that God expects you to stay calm in such situations.

5. Manage Anger Through Meditation

Meditation is a powerful tool that a Christian can use to better manage anger. When we meditate on the Word of God, the mind is not only renewed and filled with the holy scriptures, but it is also purged from all negative thoughts, and from wrong perceptions of people and situations that could easily trigger us.

Meditating on God's Word is a great way to ease into the anger management process. A calmer and clearer mind is a powerful mind; it can easily take charge of negative emotions that could get the individual irritated, and help them better manage anger.

Overtime, meditation has proven to be really effective in terms of emotional regulation. We can use it to release anger whenever we are angry. Meditation can suppress strong emotions, thereby decreasing anger and aggressive outbursts.

6. Forgive Yourself And Others

Holding onto anger and holding grudges against those who get on your nerves, will only hurt you in the long run. Resentment towards purported offenders is the root of anger in many people. Until one has let go of the grudge they have against others, their efforts to overcome anger may always prove abortive.

James 1:20 NIV
Because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.

So start by learning to forgive yourself for the times you've gotten angry and said words or taken actions that do not please God. Also forgive others for the times they have offended or hurt you. This is necessary for your emotional well-being.

Short Prayer For Anger

Dear God,

I bring my anger challenge before you today. I recognize that anger is a natural emotion, but I also know that it has the capacity to destroy me if I cannot control it.

I pray that you would reveal to me the root of my anger, and help me see the truth about what is causing me to feel angry.

Lord, I ask that You would help me react to offenses in a way that honours You. Help me to be slow to anger, just as You are. Help me to always respond calmly; to speak words of peace and love, even when I am feeling irritated.

Father, I know that I cannot control the actions of others, but I can control my reactions towards them. I ask for the strengthening of the Holy Spirit to help me choose peace over anger, love over hate, and forgiveness over bitterness.

In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Final Thoughts On Deliverance From Spirit Of Anger

Anger can be managed or subdued to the barest minimum, but it is not something that one can eradicate. If the emotion of anger wasn't necessary for the psychological well-being of humans, God wouldn't have created and deposited it in us.

The spirit of anger works hard to aggravate anger in people and make them sin against God. That is why we must persistently pray against it.

Romans 12:21 NLT
Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.

By the Grace of God, we can subdue and overcome anger. I believe that the information provided in this article can help you manage anger, and not let it control you to sin against God.
