Spiritual Meaning Of Running In A Dream

For many who have seen dreams about running, and seem not to understand them, today we bring you the spiritual meaning of running in a dream.
Spiritual Meaning Of Running In A Dream

A dream of running is one of the most common dreams that many see daily. Most times, running dreams happen to appear normal and harmless, so many people don't bother finding out what it means, or whether it has any spiritual implication.

But for those of you who are eager to know what running in a dream means, we will share with you today, the spiritual meaning of running in a dream—from a Christian perspective.

Some dreams seldom show up, compared to others. But that isn't the case with dreams about running. Almost everyone will admit that they have at least, once found their self running in a dream.

Running in the dream happens to both Christians and non-Christian alike. Before you proceed to read this article to the end, I'll like to remind us once again, that this is a Christian dream interpretation website. That being said, our dream interpretations are based on the Christian's holy Bible.

If our dream articles do not align with your conventional knowledge and understanding of dreams (as a non-Christian), that doesn't mean they are inaccurate.

It simply means that you are unable to comprehend because you do not have the Holy Spirit living in you. The solution is to become a Christian and receive the Holy Spirit, so that you will be able to gain understanding whenever you read any of our blog posts. If you would like to join the Christian faith, go on and pray this salvation prayer.

That being said, finding yourself running in the dream shouldn't be seen as a strange occurrence. Different people see diverse kinds of running dreams, and they include:

  • Dream of running in fear
  • Dreaming of running effortlessly
  • Dream of running with someone
  • Running away dream meaning
  • Dream of running on the road

The sort of running dream that you have been seeing may not be included in the list above, but be rest assured, there is always a reason why people find themselves running in their dreams. Hence, every running dream has a meaning. All dreams always mean one thing or another.

Also, it is always either a person is running away from something in their dream, or running towards something. This is one reason why running dreams shouldn't be overlooked or discarded as meaningless.

Galatians 5:7 NLT
You were running the race so well. Who has held you back from following the truth?

I believe that, every running dream always communicates a very important message concerning the dreamer. Whenever you find yourself running in your dream, the wise thing to do is to go ahead and find out what your dream means, then find out what other action(s) the message delivered to you through that dream requires of you.

Running In A Dream Biblical Meaning

There are many aspects to the biblical meaning of running in a dream. Whenever the Bible made mention of “running”, the term was often used as analogy, referring to the act of actively working on one's purpose, calling or ministry.

A good example of this can be seen in Habakkuk 2:2, where the instruction from the Lord was for the vision to be written down, so that those who read it may “run” with it.

Habakkuk 2:2 NIV
Then the LORD replied: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it.

Running in this context, refers to being in active service, or actively working on one's purpose. Therefore, if you were not running from danger in your dream, we cannot say that you saw a bad dream. Your dream may simply mean that you are focused in life, determined and ruggedly chasing after your goals.

Isaiah 40:30-31 ESV
Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

If something is up and running, then it is said to be functioning exactly the way its maker intended it to.

Thus, not every running dream is a bad omen. If you found yourself running in the dream (with the understanding that you were running to get to somewhere or meet up with time), then such a dream cannot be tagged as a bad dream.

There are people who always feel too weak to be able to run in their dreams (even when they are in danger), and that is a very bad spiritual state anyone can be in.

Although it is not always the best approach, but if you're able to escape from danger in your dreams by running, then that confirms that your spiritual self is functioning at its optimal state.

For some, most of their dreams are always about running away from attacks and danger. But how long will you keep running? If you always find yourself running from the enemy's attacks in your dreams, it only proves that you are the fearful type.

Proverbs 28:1 NLT
The wicked run away when no one is chasing them, but the godly are as bold as lions.

Dreams of running from danger often show up (but not limited to) the following forms:

  1. Dream of running from someone.
  2. Dreams about escaping and running away from someone.
  3. Dreams about running away from someone trying to kill you.

But a Christian isn't supposed to be full of fear. It is the enemy who should be afraid of the Christian, because the Greater One lives in them.

The Bible says that just one Christian is enough to put a thousand enemies to flight, because it is the Lord God who fights for them (Joshua 23:10).

The Christian should be as bold as a lion, and the agent of darkness should be the timid one running from a Christian in their dreams, and not the other way around. A Christian shouldn't be running from the battlefield each time the enemy strikes, but be equipped to face the enemy head-on!

If you are one of those who often get chased in your dreams—and each time that happens—you become scared and take to your heels, then something is not right. That approach is totally wrong!

My prayer for you is that, from this day onwards, the Lord empowers you to defeat your dream attackers, instead of running from them, in the Name of Jesus Christ!

Spiritual Meaning Of Running In The Dream

There are many reasons why people often find themselves running in their dreams, and the common ones are as follows:

1. Running To Catch Up With Someone Or Something

A dreamer could find their self being lost in a dream, and then running and trying to find their way back home. In such a situation, it is not the running itself that is the problem, but the dream of being lost.

Another instance is seeing a dream of you running and trying to get to a particular place in your dream. You could have found yourself running on the road and running fast to get to the location you want to be. There is nothing negative about this dream.

Nothing generally is wrong with these sort of dreams. Life is spiritual, and for most of the activities people carry out in their waking life, they will as well find themselves doing the same (and even do them better) in their dreams

2. Running From Danger In A Dream

Running from danger in a dream is a means of escape in the event of an emergency. It's like the defensive aspect of spiritual warfare

But God doesn't expect a Christian to always be on the defensive when they encounter the enemy. A Christian should be equipped to also go offensive against the attacks of the enemy in their dreams.

In Luke 10:19, the Lord said that He has given us power to tramble upon serpents and scorpions. That is offensive spiritual warfare. The Lord didn't say that He has given us power to run and hide from serpents and scorpions, so they wouldn't hurt us.

There are people who often get chased by dangerous animals like dogs and wolves in their dreams, and all they do is run in fear. A Spirit-filled Christian shouldn't be that way.

Biblical Meaning Of Running A Race In A Dream

In 1 Corinthians 9:24, Paul likened Christianity to a race; that everyone who believes in Jesus Christ is running this race.

1 Corinthians 9:24 NIV
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

Simply put, if a Christian finds their self running a race in their dream, this could be God revealing to them their present state or level in their Christian race or relationship with Him.

According to Paul, in this race, there is a prize to be won when the tape is braced. So we are not running in vain. There is a reward for everyone who endures to the end. Scriptures says that he who endures to the end will receive the crown of life (Revelation 2:10).

As a Christian, if you saw that you were running a race in the dream—but got sidetracked, worn-out or fell on the way, then this is a sign that your walk with God needs urgent attention!

You need to focus on improving your relationship with the Lord, and working on your overall Christian life, so that you can make Heaven on the last day.

A dream of running a race could also show up to anyone at all, notifying them of the competition that exists within their circle; in their places of work, schools, businesses or organizations.

Everyone wants to become the best in life. No one wants to be tail, but everyone wants to be the head. You shouldn't also relent in working towards becoming the very best.

1. Dream of Running A Relay Race

Christianity is a relay race. Ministry is not one man's business. In an organization, workers are often promoted from one level to another, people get retired and are replaced by others.

A dream of running a relay race may show up to a minister of the Gospel, owing to the fact that ministry itself is a relay race. Such dreams are always from God and will often come with more details.

A dream of running a race could as well show up to anyone holding an important office in an organization. The intent is to remind them that they have a tenure and a successor. Just as the batton was passed to them, they will also pass it to someone else to continue from where they stopped.

2. To Dream Of Running A Race And Winning

If you saw in your dream that you were the winner in a racing competition, then you should start expecting success; expect breakthrough and expect promotions. This will manifest in your waking life, in areas like your purpose, academics, Christian life, business or ministry, etc.

Overall, to dream of running a race and winning often points to success and victory in the dreamer’s life endeavors.

Running Fast In Dream Meaning

The ability to run fast in a dream only comes when the dreamer is filled with the Holy Spirit. The dreamer is filled with spiritual energy, making spiritual activities (like running or attacking an enemy in a dream) quite easy for them.

A good number of people who often find themselves running in a dream, are always too tired and weak to be able to run from an enemy or danger. So if you are able to run fast in your dreams, it is obviously a good thing!

Running Slow In Dreams Meaning

Running slow in dreams reveals spiritual weakness. It shows that the dreamer is spiritually weak. They may look strong and healthy in the physical world, but in the spiritual realm, they are among the weakest.

There are many people who get attacked in their dreams but can't lift a leg to run, talk more of being able to attack back. That is such a dangerous spiritual state such a person is in!

Some have already become victims of dream attacks, they couldn't wake up the next day, because they were unable to do the least as running from their attacker in their dreams.

If you always feel weak in your dreams, it shows that (while awake) you haven't been focused on your spiritual growth, but on mundane things. It is time to prioritize spirituality and start working on your spiritual growth.

Dreams About Running Fast and Flying

Most Africans are often quick to conclude that flying in a dream is witchcraft. But what happens if you found yourself in a situation where you got attacked in your dream, you ran till you got tired, then you attempted to take to flight, but couldn't. Is that better?

The spiritual abilities humans have (and can use in dreams), were all deposited in them by God. The enemy did not create a thing. But if a man sumbits his vessel to Satan, he is definitely going to use that person's spiritual abilities for his evil intents.

So we shouldn't be quick to attribute everything to the enemy. Let's give God all that glory that is due Him.

If you are able to run fast and fly in your dreams (especially in the face of danger), always remember to thank God for empowering you for such level of agility and spiritual feats in your dreams!

Dream Of Running Up A Hill

If you found yourself running up a hill in your dream, it means that there are serious challenges in your life.

Being able to run up the hill without looking back or being fearful, shows how determined and relentless you are towards overcoming your challenges and achieving your goals.

Apparently, you are someone who has gotten used to facing your fears and overcoming your challenges—no matter how dreadful they may seem.

If you found yourself running up a hill in your dream—but got exhausted before reaching the top of the hill—this shows that your challenges seem to overwhelm and overpower you.

The best thing to do is to ask for God's help. He didn't create you to do life all by yourself, but He created you to depend on Him.

So go ahead and ask Him to give you a helping hand, out of whatever you are passing through. And He will gladly do just that!

Final Thoughts On The Meaning Of Running In A Dream

A dream of running can either be a good or bad omen. If you are always running from someone or something that chases to kill, arrest or harm you in your dream, it means that you are under a serious spiritual attack from the enemy.

If this dream repeats and seems not to go away, it shows how persistent your attacker is, towards achieving their goal of harming you.

When this is the case, you have to step up your prayer life. Invite the Lord Jesus Christ into your battle, to take over and pursue your pursuers!

There is nothing wrong in being able to run fast (and possibly fly in your dreams)—especially in the face of danger.
