How To Pray For Your Children

Every good parent should pray good prayers for their children. Here is a Biblical guide on how to pray for your children.
I believe that every good parent inherently knows that they should be praying for their children. Prayer is a powerful tool that parents can wisely use to forge and align their children in God's will and destiny for their lives.

How To Pray For Your Children

A parent's prayer for their child is one the most effective prayers that a child can get. Since prayer is an invocation, words of prayer from a parent (be they negative or positive) can go a long way to influence and change the life course of a child, either in a good or bad way.

We must admit that, there are parents who have performed greatly in their spiritual responsibilities toward their children. But there are also some who have failed woefully in the same aspect.

While some parents consistently pray good prayers for their kids, there are some who don't pray for their children at all. And there is another group of parents who misuse their spiritual authority over their children to lay curses on them.

I want to seize this opportunity to urge parents who have spoken negative words over their children (for whatever reason), to revert those words. A good parent doesn't wish for the downfall of their children.

Psalm 127:3
“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.”

Parents should understand that they didn't create their children. It is God who gives children. God owns your children; He only gave them to you to oversee on His behalf.

God sent those kids to the world through you, because He expected you to become a good steward of them. Your utmost desire should be to see to it that, your children prosper—and if possible—become better than you in all ramifications.

I understand that children can sometimes be very disrespectful and annoying. It is true that they can sometimes go overboard to hurt their parents in unimaginable ways.

Nonetheless, God expects you as a parent, to forgive and wish them well; not to curse them with misfortune. Do not hold grudges against your children or pronounce woes upon them.

If you have ever spoken negative words over your children, go ahead and take back those words now. Then you can proceed to pray good prayers for them.

Let's also be reminded that some children are very special. They come with a divine purpose and assignments from God. On the last day, parents will give accounts to God, on how they influenced their children's success or failure, in the assignments God gave to them.

Be that parent who does good to their child today. Don't be the parent God will reprimand for contributing to their child's failure and destruction.

Tips On Effectively Praying For Your Children

Here are some tips that can help you pray effectively for your children:

1. Be Consistent In Your Prayer For Your Children

Children are faced with diverse daily challenges that are unknown to the parents. You cannot go with your children everywhere they go, to protect them from danger or stop them from making the wrong choices. But God is omniscient, He can do that for you if you ask Him. That's why you have to constantly pray for your children.

Also, don't just pray for your children when they are sick or going through challenges. You have to pray for them regularly, that God protects them from the very things that could harm them and make you pray in despair for their restoration.

Make it a habit to cover your children spiritually through prayer. Consistently intercede on their behalf.

2. Be Specific With Your Prayers

Don't just pray for general blessings and success of your children. Ask God for very specific and important things that you want Him to accomplish in the lives of your children.

You can keep a list of things you want to see God make manifest in the lives of your children. Then pray them until they come into fruition.

3. Be Positive. Say Good Prayers Over Your Children

Let the focus of your prayers for your children be on all the good things you hope for them. Resist the temptation to tell God to punish your children for offending you. Don't be vengeful in your mind or with your words when praying for your children.

4. Stay Optimistic And Thankful

Remember to thank God for the blessings that He has already made manifest in the lives of your children. Thank Him for the prayers concerning your children that He has already answered. Stay optimistic and trust Him to answer more of such prayers and make them manifest in the lives of your children.
