The Power Of Seeking God In The Morning

There is an hidden benefit attached to seeking God in the morning. Join us as we explore this and more in today's teaching.
Seeking God In The Morning

Seeking God first in the morning is a very powerful spiritual discipline that many Christians today overlook and neglect. This is mainly because the society and religion has programmed us into accepting the routinary few minutes morning prayer as the norm. But is this really what the Bible meant by seeking God early? Let's see what the Holy Spirit has to reveal to us today.

In many Christian families, very early in the morning, a five minute morning prayer is held in the sitting room and all family members are compelled to join. Any family member who refuses to be a part of it is tagged as a 'hater of God'.

It is good for a Christian family to pray together, but sometimes, people don't even know when they turn a particular service to God into a religious practice.

Christianity is not a religion. Seeking God has never been something to be done on a 'generally accepted Christian time frame'. It's also not something to be done in haste.

No serious Christian seeks God in their closet for five or fifteen minutes and expects to find Him. Therefore, any form of seeking God requires quality time.

1. Jesus Sought The Father In The Morning

The Lord would not want us to do anything which He never did. As Christians, Jesus Christ should be our first role model (before mere mortal). We should emulate Him.

Everything the Lord did that was recorded in scriptures, was carefully orchestrated by Heaven for our learning.

Mark 1:35 KJV
And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
Mark 1:35 NIV
Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.

2. David Was Committed To Seeking God In The Morning

We are told that David was a man after God's own heart. That isn't just because he made available all that was needed to build God's temple, or because he played and danced before God.

If we diligently go through the Psalms of David, we'll understand that David was a man who was addicted to the presence of God. Many Psalms of his reflect that of a man who hungered and worked towards gaining the most intimate relationship with God as possible.

Psalm 27:4 KJV
One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple.

The Psalmist spent quality with the Lord in Prayer, Praise, Worship, Studies and Meditation on Scriptures

David laid so much emphasis on his desire to seek the face of God, and that included seeking God early. Most of his psalms were words which the Lord communicated to him in the secret place. They were so awesome that he turned them into songs or poems—the psalms that we have today.

Psalm 5:3 KJV
My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.
Psalm 63:1 KJV
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.

At this point, we should clearly see that David's version of seeking God in the morning wasn't a five or fifteen minutes hasty morning prayer.

Seeking God First

As Christians, I'm sure we have been told many times that it is right and important to seek God first in everything. The need to seek God first in everything we do and in every area of our life cannot be overemphasized.

Matthew 6:33 KJV
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. [6] In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 16:3 KJV
Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.

Seeking God first should be the topmost priority in the life of every committed and submitted Christian

Seeking God Early In The Morning

There are no specific 'Christian rules' for seeking God in the morning, lest we again turn it into a religious activity. But there are scriptural principles for seeking God in a way that is acceptable to Him.

Hebrews 11:6 KJV
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

The Lord lays so much emphasis on diligence, when it comes to seeking Him. If we are going to seek God in the morning, we have to make sure we don't do it rashly. The keypoint is giving God quality time in the morning, before we move on to our daily activities.

We are supposed to talk to God first in the morning before talking to anyone else. That shouldn't be a few minutes prayer but quality time in His presence; communing with Him in prayer, meditation and worship. A quality quiet time with God in the morning will definitely yield bountiful results!

Giving God Quality Time In The Morning. Is It Feasible?

There will always be excuses to not spend quality time with God, if we look for them. Excuses are always available.

If we look around for things that could get us occupied in the morning, apart from God, we will always find many.

The morning starts from 12am downwards. Every serious Christian should know that too much sleep never helps their productivity. Therefore, we can make time for God, within 12 to 6am. Also, knowing it is for our own good, we shouldn't give room for excuses.
