Zealous For Good Works

It is good to have zeal. The Lord wants us to be zealous Christians, but only for good works.
Zealous For Good Works

Scripture

Titus 2:14 KJV
Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

God's Mind Today

Zeal is a strong energy and immense passion exerted towards something. Different people are passionate about different things.

Some are passionate about their jobs. Some are passionate towards actualizing their dreams. Others are passionate about school, art, their country, relationships, or even their faith, etc.

But there is also a possibility of being passionate about the wrong thing, or being wrongly passionate about something.

We saw the evidence of handling zeal the wrong way when Peter stood up and cut off the ear of one of the soldiers that were sent to arrest Jesus. And we also saw that the Lord reproved him immediately, leaving us a lesson to learn.

With zeal, one can do so much good. And with the same zeal, one can cause so much destruction.

Before his conversation, Paul was a zealous persecuter of the Church. He was so zealous about doing harm to God's Church, believing he was rendering service to God. Not until the Lord stopped him on his way to Damascus, and made it clear to him that he was zealous for the wrong cause.

Romans 10:2 KJV
For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

Today the Lord asks us, "What are you zealous for?"

We live in a world where people believe they are serving God, even when they have pushed Him down to number three in their order of priority.

Many are zealous about their church, attending conferences and meeting new people. Not about God. Not about building an intimate relationship with Jesus.

Many are passionate about staying up to date with the latest secular music, but not about staying up to date with the latest activities of Heaven.

Many are zealous about being close to a man of God, but not being close to Jesus. For many, all their energy is channelled towards their ambition (even when it is outside the will of God for their life).

There is a possibility of preaching from the wrong podium, or serving God in wrong place. We must be careful. Serving God cannot be done according to our own desires and prescription.

Key Point

In our serving, we must be sure that we are serving God the right way. We must be sure we are zealous for good works. We must be led in rendering our service to God. This is just one of the reasons why hearing God is important.

On the last day, we don't want to find out that all the zeal we exerted (purportedly) towards the things of God was all in vain.

Paul already thought that by persecuting the Church, God was pleased with him. He thought he was going to make Heaven, until Jesus confronted him.

There is a dire need to be sure we are walking in the will of God and that our zeal is not misplaced and directed towards the wrong cause. It is only zeal for good works that will be rewarded. God will not reward our religiosity.

Prayer

Thank you Father once again, for revealing to me in your Word that it is possible to be zealous for the wrong cause. Make clearer to me, Your will for my life. Give me a perfect understanding of your purpose for my life, so that I can walk in it. This I ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
