If A Man Love Me He Will Keep My Words
Accessing the heart of God and pleasing God should be our daily pursuit. Learn how to do that in this article.
Scripture
John 14:23 KJVJesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
God's Mind Today
The common notion among many Christians today is that Jesus loves us unconditionally—irrespective of how many times we disobey Him. That is not far from the truth.
But with this mindset, many have resorted to making it a habit to live a life of constant disobedience to God, and asking for forgiveness.
The Lord will not stop providing for us simply because we live in disobedience to Him. He is unchanging. He keeps His promises.
But due to this same disobedience, many haven't gone beyond the level of receiving their daily bread from God.
God is not poor. Providing our material needs isn't a problem to Him. But He wants us to understand that there is more to Him than that. There is relationship. There is intimacy. The Lord longs for these things with us. If we live in constant disobedience to Him, we cannot get there.
There is a world of difference between a Christian who is totally submitted to God, and the one who goes to God to ask for forgiveness for a recent sin they committed; and then ask for money. The two categories of Christians can never be the same.
One is getting material things from God and the other has access to God's heart, and is accessing the deep things of God. So which do we prefer?
Christianity is a love relationship with Jesus Christ, not an activity. Some are caught up in religious activities in church, serving in this and that department. Yet, without a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Gaining access to the heart of Jesus Christ is supposed to be the topmost priority and pursuit of every genuine Christian. And the way to His heart is by being a doer of His Word. That is what proves to Him that we love Him.
No Father hates his child for being humble and obedient to him in every way. Not doubt, a father will always forgive his child for being disobedient. But if that child of his changes and begins to obey the father completely, this will definitely touch the father's heart and grant the child more access to his father.
A disobedient and obedient child do not have the same level of access to the parents' heart; talk less of everything the parents have.
Many Christians desire to have mighty encounters with Jesus Christ, but that does not happen if we are rebellious Christians.
John 14:21 KJVHe that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
The Lord Jesus said that He will reveal Himself to those who keep His commandments. Not those who constantly go to Him to cry for forgiveness for the new sins they committed.
We must understand the point here. God will always forgive us when we disobey Him. But making it a routine to disobey God and ask for forgiveness doesn't help anyone go farther in Him. It's actually an avenue for remaining at one level with God. A closer walk with God cannot be achieved that way.
Key Point
If Jesus were to choose between working for Him and walking with Him, He would prefer that we walk with Him. Walking with God is superior to carrying out activities for God.
God does not exist to please us, we exist to please Him. If we understood the importance of living in obedience to God, we would understand that receiving material things from God is the least He can do for us.
The way to Jesus' heart is through obedience to His Word. That is how He knows we love Him. The love isn't just supposed to flow from Him to us, but also from us to Him.
Prayer
Thank you Lord for reminding once again, the need to live in obedience to You. Today, as I realise the importance of seeking your heart, help me to do just that. Enable me to not just be a hear of your Word, but also a doer of the same. This I ask in Jesus Name. Amen.
