The mind is the seat of consciousness, imagination, perception, thinking, intelligence, judgement, language and memory. It is also a warehouse which can be filled with either good or evil; with carnal or godly thoughts.
Whatever fills the mind determines the choices, decisions, actions, character and behaviour of an individual. The mind determines how everyone lives their life, hence, it should be paid keen attention to.
Why Does God Want Us To Renew Our Minds
Romans 12:2 KJVAnd be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Both God and the devil are after the mind; because they understand that if they can get hold of the human mind, they can have the human completely.
From the mind, people receive the instruction to pray and also from it, people get the instruction to steal. It all depends on who is in charge of the mind—either God or the enemy.
This is just one of the reasons why we are instructed in scriptures to renew our minds. By renewing our minds we hand it over to God completely, so that He can have dominion over it and enable us live right.

What Happens When We Have Unregenerate Mind?
The unregenerate mind is a mind that has not been renewed. In scriptures, it is called a carnal mind.
The unregenerate mind is filled with all sorts of evil, immoral and ungodly thoughts. Those who have a carnal mind cannot please God.
Romans 8:6-7 KJVFor to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. [7] Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
The carnal mind rebels against God and rebels against everything good. It hates doing and living right. Because it cannot submit to God, it prefers the 'bad life' instead.
If we truly desire to please God, we must renew our minds.
Who Has A Carnal Mind?
The disobedience of the first man automatically imprinted sin in the DNA of subsequent generations. Therefore, everyone after Adam is born with a carnal mimd.
Psalm 51:5 KJVBehold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
No one comes to Jesus Christ as a perfect human. Salvation does not automatically root out the carnal mind from the saved. We are already forgiven after salvation, but there is still the need to renew the mind, so that we do not go back to the life that we were delivered from.
After getting saved, it is our responsibility to allow the Lord to work on and transform our minds into the likeness of His.
How To Renew The Mind
The agencies that are responsible for renewing the mind are the Holy Spirit and the Word of God.
It is the Holy Spirit who illuminates scriptures and bring them to life in our spirit-man, so that they become potent and able to transform us, starting from our minds.
Ephesians 5:25-26 KJVHusbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; [26] That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word.
The Word of God is a powerful cleansing agent for purging the human mind from all sorts of ungodly thoughts and transforming the human into the likeness of Christ.
We must submit to the transformational work of the Holy Spirit. We must love and appropriate the Word. Every new convert should become a student of the word for their transformation.

We can only get our minds renewed by consistently and prayerfully studying and meditating on scriptures, under the supervision and guidance of the Holy Spirit!

- When we can differentiate between what God wants and does not want (using a renewed mind) avoiding what displeases Him will become easy.
- Renewing the mind gives us the Christ-kind of mind, which is the sort scriptures instructs us to have.
