In the book of Romans 8:26, we're told that the Spirit helps in our weakness.
To 'harness' in this context means to make use of. The human flesh is weak by default. It has always been that way. Spiritual things are boring to the flesh.
In the sphere of the human will, the flesh meets face-to-face with the human spirit to wrestle with it for the place of supremacy. In most cases, the flesh wins and stays in control of the entire human being.
This is where the help of the Holy Spirit is needed. The Spirit of God empowers us to live right and do the things that please God. Without Him, we would be controlled by the flesh to live in carnality.
Zechariah 4:6 KJVThen he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.
As Christians, we were not baptised in the Holy Spirit just so we could enjoy the feeling of being Anointed. The Holy Spirit isn't in us just so we could 'feel the Anointing.' He is there to help us do what God wants us to do. Are you harnessing His help?
The Holy Spirit is there to bring our flesh under submission to Him, while empowering our spirit-man to enable us live a spiritual life.
How Can We Harness The Spirit's Help?
The Holy Spirit is the third person in the Godhead. Just like our Lord Jesus Christ, He seeks to be close to us. He seeks relationship and communion with us. Understanding this is a prerequisite to receiving help from Him.
We can talk to the Holy Spirit daily (and we should), asking Him to take over the affairs of our lives for the day and enable us do the things that God wants us to do. Such prayers make Him happy because that is one of the purposes for which He was sent. He is glad to do it.
If we must stay filled with the presence of God and be empowered to fast and pray; to study and minister to others, we must create a vibrant rapport with the Holy Spirit.
Each day comes with its own temptations. If we could get help from the Holy Spirit, we can always overcome them. We must learn to start the day with Him.
Thank You Father for revealing to me this day, how to draw strength from your Holy Spirit; to live above the biddings of the flesh and do the things that please you. Enable me to apply same in my life so I can enjoy the benefits. This I ask in Jesus Name. Amen.
