Prayer For Confidence

Let's see what the Bible says about confidence. Understand what confidence means to God and get prayers to boost your confidence.
Prayer For Confidence

I believe that everyone needs confidence; God created man in such a way that he would be unable to do without it.

The term confidence simply means conviction, reliance, faith, credence or belief. What you know as the truth can be a source of confidence. The knowledge you can apply to make certain things work is in itself a source of confidence. Whatever you have faith in becomes your source of confidence. If you can freely trust and rely on something, then you have confidence in that very thing.

Hebrews 10:35 KJV
Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.

We can as well say that confidence is that boost, that adrenaline or the driving force that man needs in order to achieve success in his life endeavours; and accomplish tasks that look impossible to many.

Where there is no confidence, there is depression and discouragement; there is no motivation to give anything a try. Then what follows after is failure.

Confidence is the key to the successes and brethroughs that many have had with God; in their academics, in the area of research and in the area of technological innovations.

It is not strange that something like confidence exists. God knew that man wouldn't be able to walk in the fullness and reality of who He destined him to be without it.

Types Of Confidence

I can readily classify confidence into two groups as follows:

1. God Confidence

This is the reliance, belief, faith or credence in God. It's a condition whereby man totally leans on and trusts in God. The Bible instructs us to completely lean on God:

Proverbs 3:5 KJV
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

The need to lean on God cannot be overemphasised. We can see in the scriptures that there were people who leaned on the Lord and He never let them down. In fact, He made their way prosperous and gave them all-round success and victory. David was one of such people.

Psalm 27:1-3 KJV
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? [2] When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. [3] Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.

No genuine Christian today can live up to the person God sent them to be without having confidence in God—especially in these perilous times. Every true child of God must cultivate the habit of having full confidence in God—if they really want to become who He destined them to be.

Jeremiah 17:7 KJV
Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.
2 Chronicles 32:8 KJV
With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the Lord our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

The righteousness that comes to us through Christ Jesus gives us confidence; that in Him we are saved, we have His protection, and through Him we can destroy the works of the enemy.

Isaiah 32:17 NIV
And this righteousness will bring peace. Yes, it will bring quietness and confidence forever.

But that's not all. It might also interest you to know that God isn't against us having confidence in ourselves. But we must make sure we do it the right way.

2. Self Confidence

I can define self-confidence (self-esteem) as believing in the person God created you to be. This confidence is not unrighteous or prideful.

God made man in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:27) and went further to deposit much in man. Every child of God carries a fraction of God in them. You have the Holy Spirit living in you to will and to do according to the good pleasure of the Almighty (Philippians 2:13). Why then can't you believe in yourself?

Joshua 1:9 KJV
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Many have ended up settling for failure due to low self-esteem. For instance, some people believe they are ugly and nothing good can come out of them. This perception towards themselves turns out to become their greatest barrier to achieving anything in life.

Many have big dreams but do not have the confidence to work on and actualize those dreams

As a Christian, having confidence in yourself is like saying, “I am who God says I am.” That's all connected to God and has nothing to do with rebellion against Him. With such a conviction you can achieve great feats and things which are impossible to the ordinary man.

Contrary to what some speculate, self-confidence, when done the right way, is not pride. It is actually denying and shying away from who God created you to be that is prideful to God

Final Thoughts On Confidence

You can see that both God-confidence and self-confidence work hand-in-hand to help us become the person the Lord destined and called us to be.

Nahum 1:7 KJV
The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

N/B: It's also needful to stress that putting confidence in another man replaces confidence in God, and God is against this.

You can't have confidence in God while doubting the abilities God gave to you, and still expect to make it in life. After you're done believing in God, believe also in yourself. This is the will of God for yourself.

God bless you.
