God instructs us in His Word to pray for others. 

1 Timothy 2:1 states it clearly, 
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people.

For several reasons, God chose not to create just one or two people on earth. It is because we need each other. We need friends and family around us. No one can really function maximally on the earth without the help of other people. 

Ephesians 6:18 says,
