God said in Joel 2:28,
“Afterwards, I will pour out my Spirit of all people,. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will see dreams, your young men will see visions”
Not all dreams are ordinary. The book of Daniel makes of understand that some dreams are visions—a revelation about the future (Daniel 7:1-14, Daniel 7:13-14).
No doubt that one of the ways God spoke and revealed things to Daniel was through night visions.
Most dreams about the future will come as prophetic visions and warnings from God. That being the case, it would be unwise to toss them aside like nothing.

“Why do I get to see what is going to happen in the future in my dreams?” That's the question that bothers many people when they start seeing dreams about things that will happen in future.
Some people get more disturbed when the very things they saw in those dreams begin to manifest.

If you see a dream about something scary that will take place in future, you're not seeing it for nothing. Where many get it wrong is when they do nothing after seeing such dreams.
The Lord said in John 16:13 that,
“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide us into all truth. He will not speak on his own authority, but what he hears he will speak, and he will reveal to us things about the future.”
In these last days, there will be many people seeing dreams about the end of this age, about tribulations, about many events written in the book of Revelation taking place.
Those are warning dreams, and warning dreams need to be acted upon. The Holy Spirit reveals them to us so that we can act swiftly about them.
Not only warning dreams, but the Spirit of God also reveals great things about one's future and that of other people.
In Numbers 12:6, God said:
“Listen to my words: 'If there is a prophet among you, I the Lord will reveal myself to them in visions, I speak to them in dreams.'”
One of the reasons why people see dreams about the future is because God has called them to be His prophets to their generation. And prophets don't just receive revelations from God and move on with their life. There's a reason why God made them a prophet. They have a mission.
Visions about the future are not given for our enjoyment. They often come with an assignment attached to them.
Dreaming about the future isn't what makes one special. What one does about such dreams is what counts.
Why You Keep Having Dreams of the Future
Through prophetic dreams about the future, God guides us, leads us, instructs and assigns many to different missions on earth.
1. God Doesn't Want You To Be Caught Unawares
When dreams about the future come as warning dreams, they're often first of all a warning for the dreamer... then for other people.
For instance, seeing the end of the world in a dream isn't a warning dream meant for just other people. The dreamer must first take that warning personal.
God doesn’t want them ignorant of the times they're living in and how imminent His return is. He wants them prepared, living right and ready. When they themselves are in that place, they can warn others.
2. God Is Preparing You
When people see dreams about the greatness of their future, God is doing something invaluable in their life. He is registering that picture of their future in their spirit as an aspect of Him preparing them.
With that vision impressed, they have something to work with judiciously towards the manifestation and fulfilment of their destiny.
3. It Is God's Way of Protecting You and Your Love Ones
God's protection doesn’t end at Him fighting our hidden battles and sending His Angels to protect us. God also protects us by revealing to us the evil plans of the enemy against our lives.
If God shows you a car accident involving you or someone close to you, that is a future event. That is harm that the enemy has plotted to bring to pass tomorrow, next week or months later.
Seeing that plot of darkness before it manifests is divine protection. It's safety. The dreamer can pray and walk wisely to avert it.
What To Do When You See A Dream About The Future
When you start seeing dreams about the future, don't just feel special and gifted. God expects you to take action.
- That's one way God is trying to draw you close to Him. Repent and seek Him. Reconcile with Him. If the dream is about the greatness of your future, start working with God to bring it to pass.
- When you see scary dreams about the end times, treat it first as your wake-up call. Re-assess the current status of your relationship with God. Ask yourself, “If Jesus were to come today, will I be ready?” Rebuild your relationship with God, then go ahead to warn others using information from that dream.
- When you see a dream about negative things happening to you or your loved ones, it is not God's plan that does things come to pass. Go into prayer, pray to cancel and avert such occurrences.
- What you see concerning the future is often meant for preparation and timely intervention. Always seek God for better understanding on what He wants you to do.
Prayers When Seeing Dreams About the Future
- Dear Lord, I am grateful for Your guidance, revelation and instructions given me through dreams.
- Thank you Lord for finding me worthy to know what You are doing, what you come to pass and what to prepare for.
- Father, I humbly ask that You continually expose and make me aware of the works of the enemy against my life through my dreams.
- For every thing You have shown me that requires my preparation, Lord, I ask that You guide and empower me to prepare right.
- For everything the enemy has plotted against my life and my loved ones, Lord, I know that as long as You have revealed, they are obliterated.
- Dear Lord, I repent of every deed and lifestyle that doesn't align with your blueprint for my life. Enable me to walk into the fulfilment of Your future for me.
- Heavenly Father, I pray that Your will manifests just as you've shown me in visions of the night. But for everything that is not of Your will, let it be destroyed.
- Lord Jesus, enable me to be Your witness on earth, warning the world of what to come and drawing souls closer to You.
- Thank you dear Lord for Your protection through these dreams.
- Thank You Holy Spirit for not letting me stay in the dark. I am grateful for the prophetic visions of the night that You have granted me. In the Name of Jesus Christ.

God loves us, that's the overall reason why He gives us revelations about things to come.
The interesting part of it all is that you don't need to be a prophet to see the future in your dreams. The Bible records instances where God showed warning dreams to unbelievers—to people who were neither serving nor worshiping Him.
